Stultz Woodwork is me: Jeff Stultz

My path to becoming a woodworker has developed gradually. I’ve always been drawn to design, and I’ve studied graphic art as well as photography. I also have a lifelong passion for creating and recording music, and at times all of these pursuits have merged.

During the mid 2000’s I was the Art and Technology directer at a music promotion company where I ran the website, curated and promoted concerts, and branded and designed posters. I moved on to be the resident front of house engineer at several music venues around Brooklyn and New York City including The Bell House; where I was enlisted to design the sound system. I had the opportunity to tour as an engineer with performing acts, and record and produce albums for my own groups and others.

All the while I have had a curiosity to work with my hands and specifically with wood, so around 2010 I enrolled in woodworking classes and I began taking odd carpentry projects. For a while I had also been designing and building small things for myself, and I became increasingly determined to pursue furniture making more seriously.

I left New York in 2012 and moved to the Bay Area of California where I embarked on an apprenticeship with Ken Periat at Made in Pescadero. I was fortunate to hone my craft as a full time furniture maker in a small production setting while making a variety of pieces in the Craftsman and Modern styles. In my 7 years at that shop I built most of the hallmark furnishings and custom orders, and I continue to fulfill their select custom orders to this day.

In 2018 I moved to Ojai, CA to begin Stultz Woodwork and I am now creating a line of custom furniture and home accents in nearby Ventura, CA.

My selected audio engineering credits can be found here.

Some of my recorded music can be found as Pawl Jefferson and Limbs.
